Sonnya is one of the most recurring character throughout our games as she is in all of them (Yes, even the upcoming Lingering). Her goal throughout her appearances changes over time but her bitchiness remains.
Sonnya's popularity at school is due to her physical features and gracefulness before the Freak-Quency tournament started, she seems to enjoy this attention and has a few ex-boyfriends in the past but never really fallen in love with any of them. Her popularity with players and reader seems to be the fact that she's rather gusty and bitchy for an otome MC.
Fun fact, in the Visual Novel, her personality and tendency to play with men is somewhat based on Xero to make her reactions to things easier to write. Her true personality is more accurate in the comics, fiery and has zero chill since she doesn't have to hide behind the player anymore. In Amplitude she' a lot more sarcastic and slightly bitter, but hey, been through what she has and you'd probably end up the same way.
